I am currently putting together the story of Frank’s life based on my research. His role in my research has probably been the most significant for many reasons and as a result I have decided to work on his story first. I will hopefully begin posting his story over the next few days, containing details of his early life through to his service with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in World War I, when he gave his life. A very colourful man who liked his pipe, as you can see from his photo. In the meantime, I have included the link in the menu on the left of this page which will take you to the official War Graves memorial for Frank, which includes the details of where he is officially remembered, the inscription and a brief story of WWI at the time he was killed.

The first page I have put together is the Officers War Diary and Intelligence Summary. The Diary offers an insight into life during WWI, leading up to 23 November 1917 when Private Frank Shackell was killed during an offensive north of Jerusalem, with the British army coming into direct contact with the opposing Turkish army.
